Country Overview

Economic turmoil and civil unrest have led to the displacement of a large part of the Venezuelan population to neighbouring countries, including Brazil. The Northern Brazilian State of Roraima has been in the epicentre of these dynamics with a notable increase of Venezuelan migrants and asylum seekers since the end of 2017. While tens of thousands of Venezuelans have transitioned through Roraima aiming for southern Brazil and neighbouring countries, many vulnerable groups have stayed behind and settle both in managed sites as well as among host communities in urban and rural settings.

In April 2018, IMPACT deployed REACH to Brazil to support information management efforts in the humanitarian response to the situation in Roraima, in partnership with UNHCR. REACH has conducted a number of assessments aiming at filling information gaps on the living conditions and needs of migrants and asylum seekers in Roraima state.
