IMPACT Initiatives, en association avec l’École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay (ENS Paris-Saclay), lance la cinquième édition du stage en mémoire d’Antonin Girardi, normalien à l’ENS Paris-Saclay entre 2015 et 2019, et de tous les travailleurs humanitaires victimes de violences.
Le 9 août 2020, Antonin Girardi et six collègues ont perdu la vie dans une attaque à Kouré, au Niger, alors qu’ils s’engageaient pour soutenir les communautés vulnérables.
 | Antonin Girardi a étudié au Magistère d’économie de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne avant de poursuivre ses études à l’ENS Paris-Saclay, puis de devenir assistant de recherche au sein du CREST (Centre de Recherche en Économie et Statistiques) de Polytechnique et de l’ENSAE. Spécialisé en économie géographique et environnementale, il a participé à plusieurs missions humanitaires, notamment au Niger, où son travail de recherche a permis d’identifier les populations déplacées les plus vulnérables et d’orienter l’aide humanitaire de manière ciblée et efficace. Son engagement et son parcours exceptionnel sont au cœur de cette initiative.

Ce stage, créé en sa mémoire en 2022, offre aux étudiants de l’ENS Paris-Saclay l’opportunité de rejoindre l’équipe de recherche d’IMPACT Initiatives à Genève. Les stagiaires contribuent à des projets de recherche appliquée ayant un impact direct sur les populations vulnérables dans des contextes de crise, en participant à toutes les étapes du processus de conception, collecte et analyse des données, ainsi que la production de rapports utilisés par les équipes sur le terrain et par les partenaires humanitaires.
Le programme constitue une expérience professionnelle internationale et concrète dans l’action humanitaire. Les stagiaires ont également l’opportunité de présenter leurs travaux à l’équipe de recherche, aux étudiants et professeurs de l’ENS Paris-Saclay intéressés, ainsi qu’à la famille d’Antonin.
« Le stage a été une expérience très enrichissante et correspondait parfaitement à mes objectifs professionnels pour plusieurs raisons. Tout d’abord, il m’a permis d’acquérir une expérience pratique à toutes les étapes du processus de recherche, en soutenant et en accompagnant différentes équipes dans la conception des projets de recherche, la collecte et l’analyse des données, ainsi que dans la production des produits d’information finaux. Il m’a également permis de renforcer mes compétences en économétrie et d’approfondir mes connaissances en économie de l’éducation, notamment grâce à un projet secondaire portant sur la relation entre l’accès à l’éducation et les caractéristiques des ménages. » Théophile Mulot, stagiaire de la troisième édition

Le 2 avril 2026, une session d’information sur ce stage se tiendra à l’ENS Paris, en salle 1B26 à partir de 14h. Les étudiants intéressés sont invités à y participer pour rencontrer l’équipe de recherche et découvrir l’expérience et le parcours à travers le témoignage de la stagiaire de la quatrième édition, Aanvi Singh.

IMPACT Initiatives, in association with the École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay (ENS Paris-Saclay), is launching the fifth edition of the Antonin Girardi Research Internship, established in memory of the ENS Paris-Saclay normalien (2015–2019) and in tribute to all humanitarian workers who have lost their lives to violence.
On 9 August 2020, Antonin Girardi and six colleagues lost their lives in an attack in Kouré, Niger. Antonin and his colleagues were in Niger as humanitarians, putting their expertise and commitment at the service of vulnerable communities.
Antonin Girardi studied at the Magistère d’économie at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne before continuing his studies in the Department of Economics and Management at ENS Paris-Saclay, and then becoming a research assistant at the Center for Research in Economics and Statistics (CREST) of Polytechnique and ENSAE. He specialized in geographical and environmental economics and participated in several humanitarian missions, including in Niger, where his research work helped identify the most vulnerable displaced populations and guide humanitarian assistance in a targeted and effective way. His engagement and exceptional career remain at the heart of this initiative.
This internship, created in his memory, offers students from ENS Paris-Saclay the opportunity to join the research team at IMPACT headquarters in Geneva. Interns will contribute to applied research projects that have a direct impact on vulnerable populations in crisis-affected contexts, participating in all stages of the process: research design, data collection and analysis, and the production of reports used by field teams and humanitarian partners.
The program provides a concrete and international professional experience in humanitarian action, leading up to interns presenting their work to the research team, interested students and professors at ENS Paris-Saclay, and to Antonin’s family.
| «The internship was a very valuable experience and aligned closely with my professional goals for several reasons. First, it allowed me to gain hands-on experience across all stages of the research process by reviewing and supporting different teams in research design, data collection, data analysis, and the production of final information products. It also strengthened my skills in econometrics and deepened my knowledge of the economics of education, particularly through a side project examining the relationship between access to education and household characteristics.» says Théophile Mulot, intern of the third edition.
